Adult Faith Formation
The call to serve
The parish community has a special role in promoting participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community.
"The parish is where the Church lives. Parishes are communities of faith, of action, and of hope. They are where the Gospel is proclaimed and celebrated, where believers are formed and sent to renew the earth. Parishes are the home of the Christian community; they are the heart of our Church. Parishes are the place where God's people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church's life." (Communities of Salt and Light, p. 1, from the USCCB website).
In line with the directions of the United State Conference of Catholic Bishops, St. Patrick’s Church offers several opportunities to enrich parishioners spiritual life in addition to daily and Sunday Masses. Please scroll down to find out more.

If you would like to become part of any of the ministries on this page, or have any questions, please send an email to or call the parish office at 489-2680.

Centering Prayer & Lectio Divina
". . . But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." MT 6:6
Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer. It is an attempt to present the teaching of earlier times in an updated form. The Christian contemplative tradition can be expressed as "resting in God" beyond thoughts, words, and emotions. This prayer is done while sitting comfortably with eyes closed as a symbol of letting go of what is going on around and within us. The minimum time for this prayer is 20 minutes. Two periods are recommended each day.
The principal fruits of centering prayer are experienced in daily life and not during the prayer period. Centering Prayer familiarizes us with God's first language which is silence.
Our weekly Centering prayer group meets every Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel to encourage, support and share the spiritual journey. We 'Center' for 20 minutes, followed by offering verbal prayers and petitions to God.
Once a month (on the first Tuesday) a period of Lectio Divina is offered after Centering Prayer. Lectio Divina (Divine Reading) is a reflective reading of scripture that leads us into the deeper meaning of scripture and the transformation of our lives. It is a way of listening to the texts of scripture as if we were in conversation with Christ and He was suggesting the topics of conversation. There are moments of listening and pondering the chosen passage. It is listening with the "ear" of the heart.
If you are interested in learning more or would like to join our group, come to the Chapel every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. or call the Parish Office to be put in touch with Mary Recchia or Barbara Main.
The Blessed Sacrament is exposed every Friday from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Chapel. Take the time from your busy schedule to visit.
Prayer & Praise
Our charismatic Group meets on Mondays at 7 pm in the Chapel to joyfully praise God.
Small Christian Communities
Small Christian communities (SCCs) are gatherings of Christians who come together regularly to pray, to share their human stories and their faith with one another, to read the scriptures together, and to seek ways to respond to God's presence.
Mercy Prayer Group
Now forming - a group to meet once or twice a month to pray and discuss how to use our Godgiven gifts to live our lives in service of others. We will be inspired by the example of Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy.
Join us in the Chapel every Saturday at 4:15 pm to honor our Heavenly Mother and to bring all our needs for her intercession.
Grupo de Oración
Nos encuentramos lunes y viernes a las 7 pm en la capilla de San Francisco en Oceano. La Noche de Alabanza es el último viernes del mes en la iglesia de San Patricio a las 7 pm.
Marriage Preparation
Our responsibility here at St. Patrick's is to do our best to help you prepare, not just for your wedding day, but a lifetime of love together. The necessity of adequate preparation for this most important decision in life hardly has to be emphasized. In a world where careers are only begun after years of study, our society seems to presume that people are ready for marriage just because they are old enough. We disagree, and statistics on the number of failed marriages support our reasoning. So, as beautiful and attractive as your engaged love is now, it is also a fragile and tender bud. Helping you make that flower reach full bloom and all your happy dreams come true is what we at St. Patrick's would like to see happen. Please make an appointment with the Pastor AT LEAST six months before the date of the wedding. For more information, please read our Wedding Booklet, or call Terri Bledsoe, L,C.S.W., for more information.
Infant Baptism Preparation
Parents and Godparents of children younger than 7 are required to take a class before the baptism of their child. The class can be taken at the parish where the baptism will be performed, or at another Catholic parish. Godparents are expected to be practicing Catholics in full communion with the Church, at least 16 years of age and, if married, they must be married in the Church.
Please call the Parish office to sign up for a preparation class and to register the baby for the Baptism. Be prepared to provide the original County birth certificate upon registration.
Spiritual Direction
Fr. James Keegan, SJ, defines Spiritual Direction as "the prayerful practice of helping another person to awaken to the mystery called God in all of life, and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment."
We have a number of trained and certified Directors in our area: Terri Bledsoe, Joan Lauriente, Rita King, and Patty Moyer. Please call the Parish Office to connect with them.
Bible Studies
Keep an eye on the Bulletin for an announcement for the upcoming Bible Study dates. Contact: Joan Lauriente.
Re-membering Church
Re-Membering Church is a program for inactive Catholics who might be interested in returning to the Church. There may be a number of reason why a person has fallen away. At St. Patrick’s we strive to be a caring, welcoming community that will address your questions about the Catholic Church today and will help you make the transition to an active and fulfilling practice of your Catholic faith. Please call the Parish Office to be put in touch with Barbara Main.
I baptize you in the name of the Father...
If you have any questions, or to register, please send an email to or call the parish office at 489-2680.
